I am Dani: social and preventive medicine specialist, ethnobotanist and ethnomedical specialist. Health and health maintenance are particularly close to my heart, and water is the central element for all life.
As a board member with DEMETER training at a large organic farming company, and through many years of professional experience in food production and trade, I have learned one thing: everything in nature is always a cycle and closely interconnected.
Since 2020, I have been working intensively with water, further developing the NASA®-certified chemical-free pool water treatment system. This project made me realise how unimaginative and stuck in their ways existing water systems are. This prompted me to test, analyse and critically examine existing drinking water treatment and limescale protection systems.
The result was sobering:
I couldn't find a single system that convinced me on all fronts. Here are a few insights that I felt compelled to pursue.
- How can microplastics be removed from water using plastic filters?
To me, this seems contradictory. - After just a few months, many filter systems show slimy deposits in all colours on the seals.
Germ analysis values in our own and external laboratories are partly significantly above the federal drinking water limits. - Water softeners with resins and salt are also often heavily contaminated with germs. In addition, salt ions attack fittings, pipes and appliances, drastically reducing their service life.
From a health perspective, it is also unclear whether water containing salt ions should be drunk at all. However, the environmental impact of these systems is clearly documented in many studies. - Water analyses of tap water in certified Swiss laboratories for all substances for which the federal government has defined a limit value1 reveal traces of substances in some regions that, in my opinion, simply do not belong in drinking water, regardless of the limit value.
- Epoxy renovations of galvanised iron pipes result in certain analysis values after completion of the work that I consider to be questionable.
- Statements such as ‘Our water is safe’ depend heavily on what was tested, when and how.
Limit values are tacitly agreed upon, and different values apply in each country. How can maximum values apply to all age groups?
All of this motivated me to develop my own filter systems that largely do without plastic, seals, chemically produced substances, glue, hot glue and rubber, or that subsequently yielded water purity analyses of at least 95%.
I also wanted the devices to take up as little space as possible, have long maintenance intervals and be inexpensive to maintain.
